Every suit consists of 13 cards with  rank from Ace, King, Queen, Jack, 10, 9…. Up to 2. Ace could be the highest and lowest card as well. It is kept at a higher place than the king, but it is also taken as 1.

This is one of the important pieces of information that every poker player should know.  So, to give you a complete understanding of poker hand rankings, we have prepared the list in order from high to low.

Royal Flush

Highest ranking cards of the same suit bring out a Royal Flush. Feel yourself fortunate if you get a Royal Flush while playing poker online. This is the strongest poker hand, which is unbeatable by the lower poker hand.

For example,

if you have a poker hand consisting of Ace, King, Queen, Jack, 10 of the same suit( Hearts, Clubs, Diamonds, and Spades), it is called a Royal Flush.

Straight Flush

This is considered the best poker hand after Royal Flush. It forms when a player gets all the cards in sequential rankings from the same suit. The highest Straight Flush is named Royal Flush. So it can be as powerful as Royal Flush.

For example,

King, Queen, Jack, 10, and 9 of Hearts is a Straight Flush. Also, a higher Straight Flush like Ace, King, Queen, Jack and 10 of Clubs can beat King, Queen, Jack, 10, and 9 of Hearts.

Four of a kind

One of the best poker hands, Four-of-a-kind is an interesting collection of four same ranking cards and one different ranking card.

For example,

9(Club), 9(Diamond), 9(Spade),9(Heart), and 7(Diamond) is a Four-of-a-kind poker hand. Either Royal Flush or Straight Flush can beat this poker hand. So, it can be said that it is a strong poker hand.

Full House

This is an interesting poker hand that consists of three cards of the same rank and two cards of the same rank but unique from the previous three. Any of the above poker hands can beat this combination. If there is a draw in three same rankings cards, the other two rankings cards decide the winner.

Case 1. 9(Diamond), 9(Club),9(Heart), 8(Spade), and 8(Spade) is a full house and beatable by above poker hands.

Case2. If there is a tie in the first three cards. For example, In  9(Diamond), 9(Club),9(Heart), 8(Spade) and 8(Spade) versus 9(Diamond), 9(Club),9(Heart), 5(Heart), and 5(Club) the former one will be a winner.

Flush

This is a half part of Straight flush that requires five cards from the same suit. It does not matter what their rankings are. If both the players got Flush, then the player with the highest rankings card wins the match. Ace is taken as the strongest card in a Flush.

For example,

In King, 10, Queen, 8, and 7 of hearts and Ace, Queen, 9,7, 6 of clubs, the latter one will win the match. Apart from this, all the above poker hands can beat this poker hand.

Straight

When a player gets all the cards in sequential rankings and does not matter what their suit is, it is called a Straight.

For example

Ace, King, Queen, Jack, and 10 of any suit forms the highest Straight. Above poker hands can beat this card very easily.

If there is a tie, the player with the highest-ranking card wins the match. For example, 10, 9,8,7, and 6 of any suit is a winner over 9,8,7,6 and 5 of any suit.

Three Of A Kind

This is like Four of a kind but takes only three cards of the same rank and two cards of different rank. This combination makes the poker game interesting and can win over lower poker hands and if the opponent has weaker Three of a kind.

For example

If you hold Ace(Hearts), Ace(Diamonds), Ace(Clubs), Queen(Spades), and 10(Clubs), then it is a Three of a Kind. Suppose your opponent gets King(Hearts), King(Clubs), King(Diamonds), Jack(Spades), and 8(Hearts), then you will be a winner as it has the highest rank card.

In case there is a tie, the fourth highest-ranking card determines the winner. For example in Ace(Hearts), Ace(Diamonds), Ace(Clubs), Queen(Spades), and 10(Clubs) vs Ace(Hearts), Ace(Diamonds), Ace(Clubs), Jack(Spades), and 9(Hearts) the former one will be a winner.

Two Pairs

When a player gets two cards of the same rankings, the other two cards of the same rankings but different from the previous one, and one card of different rankings, then it forms Two pairs. This poker hand is easily beatable by a higher poker hand. If you hold this poker hand, then you can win over a player who has a weaker Two Pair combination.

For Example.

Ace(Hearts), Ace(Diamonds), King(Club), King(Hearts), and 10(Spades) is a Two Pairs poker hand. Suppose you hold the above two pairs and your opponent holds  Ace(Hearts), Ace(Diamonds), Queen(Hearts), Queen(Spades), and 9(Clubs). In this case, you have a winning hand as you got a tie in the first pair but stronger ranking pair after that. This will be the case so on.

A Pair

This poker hand consists of a pair of cards of the same rank and three cards of different rankings. Any of the higher poker hands can beat this poker hand. But in case of a tie, the pair of highest-ranking cards wins the pot.

For Example

Ace(Hearts), Ace(Clubs), King(Diamond), 5(Spade), Jack(Club) will win over King(Diamond), King(Hearts), 10(Spade), Queen(Hearts), and 7(Clubs)

If the players hold a poker hand that does not form any of the above poker hands, then they possess a High Card. In this situation the player who has the highest-ranking card wins the pot.
